This video is part of an ongoing series from Theodore Ziras entitled Lick of the Week. In this lesson Theodore goes over sweep picking major arpeggios. Sweep picking is a technique for playing notes quickly and fluidly. The notes are played in a “sweeping” motion, hence the name “sweep picking.” As Theodore points out in the video you don’t want all the notes to ring out at once, instead you want to roll your finger so that the notes are played individually. If this sounds complicated now, don’t worry, it’s a lot easier than it sounds. Be sure to start off slowly and work your way up to speed with a metronome. This free guitar lesson is brought to you courtesy of Theodore Ziras. Theodore has released a new cd, if you like his lessons check out his website for more information.
This video is a sampler from Jamplay featuring multiple free guitar lessons covering a variety of styles. Some of the styles covered range from bluegrass, metal, and fingerstyle to rock, jazz and Hawaiian slack key.
In this second lesson from Youtube’s r0g3r, he teaches us a sweep picking lick and then ties this lesson together with his previous lesson on alternate picking. Sweep picking is generally applied to arpeggios, as is the case in this video. Roger teaches us a C major arpeggio as well as a C major seventh arpeggio and combines it with some alternate picking. Many guitarists use sweep picking in their playing. Sweep picking produces a very fluid sound and facilitates for very quick playing. The technique is accomplished by playing the notes in a sweeping motion, hence the name “sweep picking.”

In this video from tziras (Theodore Ziras) of Youtube, you’ll learn to shred with the minor pentatonic scale. Pentatonic scales are very common and and used across many styles of music from many countries. Since pentatonic scales only consist of 5 pitches per octave, they are quite easy to commit to memory.
Youtube user r0g3r (Roger Sullivan) presents an excellent technique for building up our alternate picking chops. For those of us that are unfamiliar with the alternate picking guitar technique, it is the continuous upward and downward motion used continuously in a successive motion to play notes on a string or the fretboard. When using alternate picking on a single string it is commonly referred to as tremolo picking. Roger provides an excellent exercise in the form of a lick which he has devised for practicing the alternate picking technique. Rogers alternate picking exercise will help you build the strength and dexterity needed to execute fast runs.
